What is FTP and why do I need it?
In a nutshell
FTP is the door through which IT Live puts files on your hosting (publishing your website updates).
What you get from your hosting provider
Four pieces of information:
| Field | Example | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Host | ftp.mijndomein.nl or IP 194.213.127.52 | Welcome email or control panel |
| Username | f_000a94f7 or jouwdomein@naam.nl | Welcome email |
| Password | (what you set) | Set by you β forgotten? Reset in control panel |
| Port | 21 (FTP) or 22 (SFTP, more secure) | Usually automatic |
What does IT Live do with it?
- You edit your website in our portal (pages, texts, images).
- You click Deploy β we use FTP to put the new files on your server.
- Visitors see the update immediately.
Is it secure?
Yes. We store passwords encrypted (AES-256). No one β not even us β can see the clear password after you've entered it.
Forgotten password?
Look for the help article for your provider (Strato, MijnDomein, OVH, Hostnet, TransIP). They all have a "Reset FTP password" button.
